Character Designs for Valley Christian Church's Vacation Bible School

As a child, I would attend a weeklong VBS program every summer, and every summer I'd find the characters that represented the lessons for each day hokey. The tales of people finding light and peace or strength and determination through faith felt disconnected from the corny caricatures adorning the church walls. As my art skills grew, I began volunteering to design the fun companions for each day, utilizing my own style and making each person relevant and interesting. My favorite years are below.
